What does “Exigent circumstances” mean in New York criminal law?
"Exigent circumstances" means conditions requiring the preservation of secrecy, and whereby there is a reasonable likelihood that a continuing investigation would be thwarted by alerting any of the persons subject to surveillance to the fact that such surveillance had occurred. 8. (N.Y. Criminal Procedure Law § 700.05)
